FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

THE MISSIOn and vision

FOE (Freedom of Expression) is a student-run literary magazine dedicated to amplifying silenced voices and sharing works that challenge convention, censorship, and complacency.

We believe that stories, especially those that are questioned, restricted, or overlooked, hold the power to expand perspective and spark meaningful dialogue.

Our mission is to create a platform where bold expression thrives, where potentially banned or marginalized works are given the space they deserve, and where diverse experiences are honoured. Through literature, we seek to foster empathy, deepen understanding, and enrich the human experience.

Our inaugural issue, “The Humanity Issue: Ode d’1954,” focuses on the subject of so-called “objectionable literature,” works subject to censorship in times of moral panic, recalling the 1954 establishment of The Advisory Board on Objectionable Publications in Alberta.
